U12- Mustangs-03 are Finalist in the Hershey Invitational

WYSC Mustangs 03G Blue travel team over the Father's Day weekend made the journey to Hershey Pa to participate in the Hershey Invitational Soccer Tournament.  The trip started early Friday morning for most, destination: Hershey Park!  After a long day of roller coastering and competing for the title of "Master of the Coaster", the players were ready and suited up for their first soccer challenge early Saturday Morning at Hershey High School.  The 17 players stepped onto the full size pitch for the first time in their young soccer careers with anticipation in an 11v11 format.

After the first day of action the Mustangs played to a win of 1-0 and loss of 0-2 (1-1-0).  The team was seated in second place in the "B flight" of 4 teams and earned the place to play the semi-final game opposing the 1st place "A flight" team on Sunday at noon.  The semi-final game went to the Mustangs were after regulation play, and 2 additional 5 minute periods of extra time the game was decided in the penalty kick format.  The Mustangs won the penalty kick 4-3 after 7 players approach the line from each team attempting to be triumphant for their team.

The final round game was a hard fought battle between both teams.  The team from Wall, NJ scored a first half goal while penetrating the 18 yard box.  Scoring opportunities and great play dominated the field for both teams for the remainder of the game.  The final score 1-0 as the Mustangs were unable to bring one home forcing the game to extra time and penalty kicks to win the title.

The players and families had a great time at Hershey, known to be the sweetest place on earth.  The players created memories they will have for a long time, long after they move on to High School and College.

FALL 2012

U11- Mustangs-01 Win the Battlefield Tournament

The Warrenton Youth Sports Club under-11 girls Mustangs won the 2012 Battlefield Soccer Tournament on Columbus Day weekend in Manassas.
The Warrenton Mustangs include Annaliese Georgi, Carmella Garner, Haley Cordova, Hannah Boone, Hannah Holland, Jamie Renzi, Jenna Kemler, Kira Holland, Kylie Warren, Lucy Arnold, Mackenzie Cochrane, Madison Pettit, Savannah Roda, and Shyla Soper. Dave Smith is the team's coach and Michelle Arnold the team's manager.
The Mustangs went undefeated over the weekend, scoring 14 goals while allowing only 3. The Mustangs and the Lee-Mount Vernon Patriots squared off in the final after a long weekend of soccer. It was a hard-fought game, with each team having chances to score. But the goalkeepers were equal to the task, forcing overtime.

Mustangs goalie Savannah Roda made several great saves that kept the score 0-0 after regulation.
In overtime, the Mustangs’ Kylie Warren scored quickly on a nice cross from Hannah Holland.
But the Patriots, who represent the Washington Area Girls Soccer League, would not quit and tied the score with just 10 seconds remaining.
The game would be decided on penalty kicks.
Mustangs goalie Savannah Roda stopped the first penalty kick from the Patriots.
Manwhile, midfielder Mackenzie Cochrane scored on the Mustangs’ first attempt.
That save set the stage for a great win. Roda stopped all but one Patriot shot and Hannah Holland and Annaliese Georgi followed up with goals of their own, which ended the game and gave the championship to the Mustangs.
It was a great team win for the Mustangs and gave coach Dave Smith his first tournament championship.
